Ruben Amirian was born in Tehran, Iran. From early childhood, he displayed interest in drawing and painting, being influenced by his mother’s oil paintings which adorned the walls of their house. After graduating from Kooshesh High School, he attended Tehran University for two years majoring in painting. He left for the United States in 1962 to continue his studies. He changed his major and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture in 1969 and a masters degree in City and regional planning in 1973.
In conjunction with architectural studies, he continued his art education by attending workshops, taking courses in drawing and art history, concentrating in contemporary art.
In 1975, he left for Iran to practice architecture and in 1980, he returned to the US for good. He now resides and works in Glendale, CA.
